Smoky Mountain Vacation '06 - Pt. 1

I'm back! Absolutely absolutely awesome! Had a wonderful time and I wish I could say it was good to be back home, but I'd be lying through my teeth. Absolutely wonderful trip.

The kids and I took off from Virginia at 3:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon and didn't arrive to our cabin until about 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. Before we even walked in our cabin, we stood on the front deck and let Melissa's friend take a picture of us. What a memory. As soon as I walked in the front door, it was heaven. In fact, the name of the cabin was "From Here to Heaven" and the name fit.

I think for the next few days I'll send pictures through...sort of a virtual tour of the Smokies from my perspective. Here's a couple more of the cabin. There's the entrance which leads to the main part of the cabin which consists of the kitchen (which you see here), the living room and the dining area. Also came with a small bathroom and a stackable washer & dryer combo.

This is the living room area, complete with big screen TV, and a DVD player. The fireplace is a gas fireplace which works with a flip of the switch...simply awesome. I guess this is how the rich people play...sigh...
Well, there's a few for you to look at...I'll send some more through tomorrow. But, wait, one more pic...this is one of my most awesome pics. It was taken on the way to Clingman's Dome which I'll tell you about in my next post or so. Simply breath-taking!

Oh give me a home where the smoky bears roam..........sing it one more time....

  2. Thanks, Miss C! What part of Tennessee do you live? You are one lucky gal, I'll tell you that. I'd give an arm and a leg just to have the honor of living there!

  4. I'm glad that you had such a good time and the photos are neat. I find it amazing how mountain ridges march off into the haze when we take photos of them. I have a somewhat similar one, less the trees since it is the desert, that was taken at the three corners point where Nevada, Arizona & California come together. The ridges just march off into infinity in the distance. Beautiful.

  5. Absolutely beautiful pictures, Dot. It makes me homesick, though. My folks had a log cabin that my dad and grandpa built us in northern Minnesota. No mountains, but it sat right in front of Little Sand Lake and at the bottom of a hill. Later they built a house at the top of the hill, but when we went to visit them we always stayed in the cabin. I loved it. When I was in highschool, my best friend and I would think we were in heaven when we got to stay in the cabin alone for whole weekends. Special treat was when two of the boys from across the lake came over and we made pizza--the old boxed Chef-Boy-R-Dee kind! We thought we were HOT STUFF!
One time Hal Lamb found a bottle of my grandpa's dandelion wine. No idea how long it had been in the back corner of that cupboard. He got really sloshed! When my dad came down for something, he saw that Hal was pretty well looped. When he asked him what he'd been into, he said "It warn't nothin' much, Howard. Just some of Gramp's horshkey!" My annual from HS that year has the note in it, "Remember the horshkey!" LOL!
